Eastern Christian School welcomes Erik Olson as a middle school history teacher and girls varsity basketball coach. He received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Lebanon Valley College and a master’s in teaching and learning from Nova Southeastern University. Prior to EC, Erik spent his teaching career in public schools.

Please tell us about yourself.

I grew up in Bergenfield and have been a teacher/coach for the past 27 years. Basketball has always been my passion and I was fortunate to be part of a NCAA National Champion in 1994 at Lebanon Valley College. I have coached girls basketball and track, sending numerous student-athletes to college and attaining many titles and accolades by the grace of God. For 5 years I ran a non-profit called Pass the Rock, which was a ministry for teens in juvenile facilities. We played ball and preached the gospel to kids weekly.

Tell the story of how you got to EC.

I have been praying for five years for God to open a new door in my life both professionally and personally. Dan Cirone (EC high school principal) and I have coached against each other for many years and have become good friends. Hearing about his experience at EC struck a chord in my soul and led me here now. I “retired” from public school teaching/coaching after 27 years to explore a new path in which I can share my love of Jesus and live out my purpose God has planned for me.

What sets EC apart?

I am really impressed with the EC community, structure and pursuit of excellence academically, spiritually and relationally. I truly believe I will be able to add to the lives of my students and athletes and help them chase after God and the plans He has for them.

See what a Christ-centered education looks like for your child.
