Since 1892, Eastern Christian has graduated thousands of individuals, with 6,176 alumni currently living and serving globally. We’d like to tell you about just a few that have been highlighted in our alumni magazine, The Herald:
Garry Vermaas, class of 1990, earned a PhD with Columbia University, owns a global management company, and once designed a palace in Qatar. He and his wife have also adopted 10 kids. He credited Eastern Christian for providing a Christian foundation and also spoke fondly of his Spanish teacher. Read his story on page 19, here.
Matthew Bouwense, class of 2006, is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and continues to serve his country in nuclear deterrence. Read his story on page 31, here. He is thankful for the academic foundation he received at Eastern Christian, also sharing, “Those of the Christian faith subscribe to an additional set of standards beyond those provided by civilian or military law.”
Rachael Kemp, class of 2011, launched a travel apparel brand a month before the pandemic hit, and due to quick thinking and creativity, quickly transitioned to selling masks. Her company’s mask was rated #1 by The Wall Street Journal, and resulted in a nearly sold-out inventory. She credited an EC teacher for helping her overcome insecurities. Read her story on page 31, here.
Our graduates have scattered around the world, serving in a multitude of ways. This is our joy. Our graduate profile states our end goal: “The Eastern Christian graduate is prepared to be a person of Christian vision and influence and seeks to contribute cooperatively and responsibly to God’s mission of renewing all of creation.”
