In light of Governor Murphy’s recent press conference and based on CDC safe school COVID-19 guidelines, Eastern Christian School is thrilled to announce that we will be reopening every day, on-campus learning beginning on September 1, 2020.

This means that every EC student will be able to participate in learning on campus in a typical classroom setting: every campus, every student, every day! While this plan will involve additional health and safety measures that meet or exceed state requirements for things like entering the building, use of shared/commons spaces, hallways, and restrooms, the vast majority of the in-class student experience in September, 2020 will look very similar- and in some cases identical- to what they experienced in prior school years.

This decision involved a great deal of planning and strategy from school administration. Through the participation in daily meetings, multiple task forces, international research, and professional counsel, we were able to determine the best and safest course of action for our students, faculty, and staff. This planning and strategy continues to occupy the vast majority of our leadership’s time and efforts on a daily basis. Please continue to be in prayer for our leadership team as they make decisions that will impact every member of the EC family over the course of the 2020-2021 school year.

While we are looking forward to welcoming the vast majority of our student body back to campus, remote learning options will be available for  K-12 students with medical or personal concerns. Under this plan, Preschool will only meet in person/on campus at the start of the fall semester.

We are also planning for additional contingencies in the event that an active coronavirus case is diagnosed in an EC community member. These situations are being planned to have safe, healthy, and least restrictive environments for all involved.

We have much more to communicate in the days ahead. There are still many details for us to work through and communicate to our parents and students. Importantly, we acknowledge that these plans may be impacted by decisions made by state and municipal authorities with jurisdiction over our school.

Thank you for your time, support, and continued partnership in this most important of all missions!

Sincerely yours,

Thomas G. Dykhouse
