img_2179While the grown-ups in America were deciding on their next president on November 8th, Eastern Christian Elementary School students were deciding the first ever EC “Elephant and Piggie” election. Taken from author Mo Willems’ popular “Elephant and Piggie” book series, EC Elementary School students could cast one vote for either Elephant or Piggie.

Students were given the privacy of a voting booth and got to experience a real ballot vote. Some students even got so into this election, they started campaigning for their favorite candidate.

The platforms of both candidates came with some things that students enjoy, and some challenges. When the dust settled and every ballot was counted, the ECEC (Eastern Christian Electoral College) cast the winning votes for Gerald Elephant.

With the Elephant victory, while the students have no playground equipment for one recess, they get the benefit of an all-teacher crazy hair day and an all-school no-homework night! Congratulations to all campaigners, voters, and to the Elementary School teachers and leadership for a fun time of voting and learning about elections!
