Organized sports (basketball especially) are great for subliminally teaching valuable life lessons. This past week, the Eagles learned that all good things must come to an end.

After a casual contest against Lodi (Eagles 38 Lodi 23), the ECMS girls basketball squad squared off versus the powerhouse Panthers of Midland Park.

Missing two key starters (Sydney Moore and Anna Kinz), the Eagles relied on Naomi Engelhardt and Kailey Campbell to fill their respective roles. Christina Tartini had a hot hand from 3-point land, while Madison Wynbeek handled MP’s combative centers (who, might I add, played “Hack-a-Maddy” for 32 minutes).

The Eagles battled until the final whistle, losing by a mere 3 points to a very solid team. Despite this tough loss, the girls bounced back with a 36-13 win against Garfield on Thursday.

This coming week marks the end of the ECMS girls basketball season. Wednesday’s game is away at HCA, and the Eagles hope to end the season with a win against Glen Rock at home on Thursday.
