We are very happy to report that Eastern Christian’s Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Barry Veenstra to the position of Athletic Director of Eastern Christian School with effect from January 1, 2015. In this capacity, Barry will provide leadership to Eastern Christian’s athletic program across all campuses. Barry had been serving as Eastern Christian’s Interim Athletic Director since August, 2014.

Barry is a graduate of Eastern Christian High School and Calvin College, where he earned a degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Physical Education and Health. Barry is in his 28th year as a member of Eastern Christian High School’s faculty and has served as a coach at EC for the last 32 years, during which time he has coached soccer, basketball, and softball at both the high school and middle school levels. His many accomplishments as a coach include his leadership of EC’s State Championship Girls Soccer team in 2007, numerous state and county tournament wins in soccer, basketball, and softball, and several Passaic County Coach of the Year awards.

Barry and his wife, Debi (also a member of the ECES faculty), reside in North Haledon and attend Emergence Church in Totowa.

Veenstra’s appointment followed a unanimous recommendation from the Athletic Director Search Team to EC’s Board of Directors late last month. The Search Team, consisting of EC parents, coaches, faculty members, administrators and Board members, conducted a nationwide search for qualified candidates which led to a series of interviews in mid-December and the recommendation to the Board.
