Our Open Houses are coming up! REGISTER ONLINE
Once again the Lord blessed us with gorgeous weather for our HomEComing Weekend that was filled with school spirit, alumni celebrations, and community fellowship.
HomEComing Weekend is our school’s largest community event of the year. Whether or not you attended, we value your feedback to help us better serve your family’s interests. This quick 30-second survey makes a big difference — thank you!
The festivities kicked off Friday night at the North Haledon campus with soccer games, food trucks, and EC Athletic Booster Club swag. First, the Girls Varsity soccer team took the field against Lyndhurst. The game was a hard-fought battle with EC taking the loss in double-overtime. The Boys Varsity team took the field next against Bogota and walked away with a 4-1 victory.
Later that evening we welcomed back a group of young alumni for Cannoli in the Courtyard – dessert, fellowship, and reminiscing in the beautifully-kept high school courtyard.
On Saturday morning we welcomed over 100 guests to our Heritage Reunion Breakfast where we celebrate our alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago. The guests enjoyed breakfast, reconnecting with old friends, and looking through their high school photos and yearbooks. Sandy Bottge, Preschool & Elementary School Principal and class of 1986 alumna, attended the breakfast with her parents, George (class of 1958 alumnus) and Carol Bosma, and shared the opening devotion which focused on a legacy of abiding in Christ.
Head of School Dr. Ruth Kuder then shared a state-of-the-school update. She also reported on the progress of the Building on a Firm Foundation capital campaign that is two-pronged: first, helping to fund the classroom addition at the Wyckoff campus, as well as commitments for future priorities.
William Tantum, EC high school technology teacher, then shared his experience transitioning from teaching and leading in the public school system to serving at Eastern Christian School. He emphasized his focus on contending for the faith in Christian education. Mr. Tantum illustrated the distinctives of an EC education and said, “Christian education, therefore, through the action of the Holy Spirit, always appeals to the heart, and has as its purpose to lead students to follow Christ actively.”
The Heritage Reunion Breakfast concluded with several guests taking a trip down memory lane on a tour through the high school where they marveled at the many positive changes.
That same morning Girls JV and Varsity Volleyball teams played Clifton at the Wyckoff campus. Varsity played well but lost the three-set match, while JV brought home the win!
About 500 people across the EC community came out to the Wyckoff campus for a beautiful afternoon at our Community Picnic. Families, students, grandparents, and alumni enjoyed delicious free food including amazing Korean food – generously provided by Korean parents in our community – as well as fun activities like face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, inflatables, and outdoor games. New this year was the dunk tank! Special thanks to EC faculty and administrators such as Dan Cirone, Dan Lazor, Seth Stadtlander, Madison Wynbeek, Adam Culp, and Christi Mulder, who all took a seat in the tank as students and parents took their turns at dunking them.
Later in the afternoon, Hard Hat Tours brought small groups of registrants through the new construction at the Wyckoff campus. Guests saw the progress of the new six-classroom addition and gained a better understanding of EC’s history and the impact the Building on a Firm Foundation capital campaign will have on our students’ future.
On Monday, September 29, the Alumni and Friends Golf Outing officially wrapped up HomEComing Weekend, where 68 golfers gathered for a gorgeous round of golf at Wallkill Golf Club in support of EC’s sports program and Athletic Booster Club.
