Welcome, Rick Botbyl!

Eastern Christian School welcomes alumnus Rick Botbyl as Upper Elementary & Middle School School Security Officer.

A member of Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, and a former EC parent, Rick worked for the city of Paterson for 27 years, having most recently served as Detective Lieutenant in the Major Crimes Division before retiring.

Please tell us about yourself

I grew up in North Haledon, NJ and played soccer, baseball and basketball throughout middle and high school. I’ve enjoyed coaching my daughter’s sports teams and being a youth group leader for seventh and eighth graders. I also enjoy riding motorcycles with friends, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation, and hosting friends and family in my backyard. 

How has God brought you to work at EC?

With the changing world around us it has become more important to provide a safe and secure learning atmosphere where kids feel safe and cared for. Once the opportunity presented itself, I knew God was calling me to the EC community where I could use my knowledge of security procedures gained throughout my career, alongside my passion for relating to kids. 

What sets EC apart?

EC is a family atmosphere where all the faculty and staff exhibit God’s love and grace. Each class is taught from a biblical perspective and details how God wants students to interact with each other, their families, and the world. As a youth group leader, I have the unique opportunity to see some of the students outside of the school building. What they are taught at EC is clearly evident in how they care for each other, the leaders and those in need.
