Last night, friends of Eastern Christian gathered to celebrate and support making a quality Christian education accessible to more Christian families.  The generator at The Brick House helped us to forget, for a time, that a Nor’easter had ravaged the area just 24 hours earlier and that much of the area was without electricity.

The evening began with a reception that included some delicious butlered hors d’oeuvres.

Once the guests were seated, Pastor KC Vander Streek opened with prayer. Tim Steen then introduced one of his former students, Ryan Visbeen  As our young alumni speaker, Ryan shared how his time at EC has prepared him in so many ways for success at college, in his career, and in his personal and spiritual life.  Following dinner, Michael Le Roy, president of Calvin College shared some thoughts on Christian education, challenging us to keep our eyes on the future, be deeply rooted in faith, and reflect the light of Christ to those around us.  Vice President of the EC Board of Directors, Mark Reitsma, then challenged the attendees to continue the important role they play in making Christian education accessible to more families.

As the night was winding down, just to remind us of the of what was happening around us, the venue was plunged into darkness.  Moments later the generator rebooted, lights came back on, we said our goodbyes and headed for home.

Thanks to all who made the 9th Annual Scholars Dinner a success.
