Before the season even started the Lady Eagles had February 15 circled on their calendars, the day they would face rival Glen Rock at home for the league championship if all went well, and it did.

What they didn’t anticipate was having only five varsity players available that day due to injuries including junior point guard Anna Kinz and senior co-captain Greta Botbyl. Early foul trouble further complicated the already formidable task but senior co-captain Hanna Faber, classmates Tori Holmes and Addie Peretti, junior Madison Wynbeek and sophomore Naomi Engelhard were up to the task. Keeping it close for the first three quarters with solid defense and rebounding, the girls came from behind with a 10-2 run in the 4th to go up by 3, only to see Glen Rock tie the game with a buzzer beating 3 pointer.

Resilient all season, the 19-3 Eagles dominated overtime behind two late put backs by Engelhard and Wynbeek, and two huge free throws from freshman sub Nicole Foster to take their first league title since 2012! Coach Barry Veenstra called it one of the most unlikely and satisfying victories of his career. Congratulations ladies, we are proud of you!
