Golf Outing 2017 Recap

The annual EC golf outing was sold out for a second year in a row, this time three weeks in advance! The rain in the forecast couldn’t dampen the spirits of 125 golfers. And while there wasn’t any lightning, each and every foursome brought a bit of thunder!

Guests began arriving as early as 11 am for the 12:45 pm scramble format start. Attendees were treated to some EC Swag by Visbeen Construction. This windbreaker turned out to be much needed on the drizzly day. Lunch was offered, courtesy of Veenstra Family Dentistry, before the golfers headed out to the course.

Head of School, Tom Dykhouse, opened the event in prayer prior to the shotgun start. Over half of the folfers purchased coupon books, further increasing proceeds to the school.  The EC Varsity Golf Team Challenge Sponsor, Northstar Marketing, helped provide a prize for the drawing for those who participated in the challenge.  Thanks team members Chase De Jong and Clay Sietsma, who generously donated their time and energy shot after shot.

The Golf Committee members, Kurt Faber, Dwayne Leegwater, Henry Hagedoorn, Scott Martin, David Ten Kate and Pete Ten Kate, spent many hours and put in great effort to ensure sponsorship sales, prize requisition and acknowledgement signs for the many supporters of the event. With over nine Silver Sponsors including Martin Orthodontics, Search Consultants of Northern Jersey Inc., Wayne Tile, Pro Contractors, Abbey Carpet & Floors of Hawthorne, Reiner Group, Regency Wealth Management, Leegwater Electric and Kuiken Brothers and over 35 Hole Sponsors there were many to be recognized for the success of this event. A special acknowledgement to our Beverage Cart Sponsor, Jeff Vander Molen of Terrie O’Conner Realty, for keeping watering holes available throughout the course.

Many prizes were awarded from the Special Drawing, as part of the coupon book, to VIP Yankees Tickets donated by W.B. Mason. The committee also awarded drawing prizes and contest winners to various activities on the course during the buffet dinner provided by the Platinum Event Sponsor, Atlantic Stewardship Bank and Gold Sponsor, Bushoven & Company.  

From late morning until early evening, fellowship, laughter and some great golf were had by all. With much to celebrate both on and off the course, Eastern Christian School, thanks all those who participated from our Driving Range Sponsor, Ulrich to our Putting Contest Sponsor, Steenstra Landscaping and everyone who attended, donated and volunteered. The proceeds of this event will go to furthering an excellent Christian Education at Eastern Christian School.
