AP & Dual Enrollment at Eastern Christian School

Discover how EC offers rigorous academic pathways in a Christ-centered environment that prepares students for college and life.

Next-level coursework can be an exciting step forward, especially when your teen is intentionally preparing for college. As you start exploring options such as Advanced Placement (AP) and dual enrollment, it helps to have a clear understanding of what each pathway offers.

  • What kinds of opportunities do AP and dual enrollment provide?
  • How do they support college readiness?
  • And what does it look like to pursue the right level of challenge within these opportunities?

For most students, the path becomes clearer as families learn how each option is structured. The format, pacing, and expectations of the course type can influence a teen’s college readiness in different ways.

At Eastern Christian School, we offer both AP and dual enrollment because students are wired differently, and we believe preparation is strongest when coursework aligns with one’s learning style and goals.

With guided course planning, academic and college counseling, and support built into the high school experience, EC helps students pursue advanced opportunities in preparation for the future — all while being grounded in a Christ-centered environment.

Why Advanced Coursework?

When your teen is ready for a higher level of challenge, it’s natural to think about what will prepare them well for college. The best next step is choosing the option that strengthens their skills and aligns with the goals they have in mind. AP and dual enrollment provide students with more than one strong path to pursue college-preparatory learning with thoughtful guidance.

Purposeful Preparation

At EC, academic rigor is always rooted in a Christ-centered foundation. Students are taught by faith-filled instructors who help them think through a Biblical worldview, so they stay grounded in their identity in Christ. Advanced coursework is approached with purpose: helping teens pursue excellence without losing sight of faith and integrity.

Strengthening Skills

AP and Dual Enrollment invite students into learning that strengthens critical thinking, communication, and study habits. And students don’t take on that challenge by themselves. With high-touch Academic and College Counseling, EC helps teens choose the right level of rigor, plan their coursework intentionally, and build the skills they’ll need for the future.

Faculty Expertise

Offering AP and dual enrollment options requires depth and careful planning. EC is able to provide both because of the experience of our faculty. Our AP courses are taught by teachers equipped to guide students through college-level expectations, while dual enrollment courses are led by EC teachers who also serve as adjunct college professors. In both pathways, students learn from instructors who know them personally and bring subject-matter expertise into the classroom.

Support & Opportunities

Challenging coursework asks more of students — and at EC, we provide support and opportunities to help them thrive as expectations rise.

SOAR (Student Opted Academic Resources)

SOAR is a built-in part of the high school experience with an academically structured, dedicated time for students. Here, teens can get extra help, meet with teachers, catch up on assignments, and strengthen the habits that make rigorous coursework sustainable. For many students, SOAR becomes the difference between simply taking advanced classes and truly learning well within them.

Academic & College Counseling

EC’s Academic and College Counseling (ACC) team helps students plan intentionally, balancing challenge with readiness and aligning coursework with long-term goals. From mapping out a four-year plan to discussing next steps after graduation, counseling gives families clarity and helps students choose academic options purposefully.

Connected to the Honors Academy

The Honors Academy is closely connected to EC’s advanced academic pathways, including AP and dual enrollment, as well as the supports that help our students thrive. Honors Academy participants benefit from the same intentional course planning, faculty guidance, and counseling as they pursue the right level of challenge.

EC’s top strengths are its academic rigor and positive community. By offering high-level courses such as Seton Hall Dual Credit and AP classes, EC gives students a way to challenge themselves while learning the ropes at a collegiate level. How would you describe your overall experience at Eastern Christian?

My experience at Eastern Christian was very positive. Having gone to three other schools, I can say EC is a truly unique place. While great things can be said of all areas, to me EC really shines in its community. Never before have I seen a sense of belonging that even transcends grade levels. Every person is genuinely good at heart and wants to see the best of their classmates, creating a powerful and encouraging environment.

In what ways have you grown in your faith as a result of your experience at Eastern Christian School?

The most important ways in which I have grown in my faith as a result of Eastern Christian is through the integration of it into courses. Repeatedly throughout several classes I have been shown the glory and beauty of God and his creation via what we are currently learning. The faculty also do a great job of connecting faith into the curriculum and even talking with students about chapel or other biblical themes.

What’s an opportunity at EC that fueled a passion to learn and grow in?

One of my favorite EC clubs is Model United Nations. While fun, Model UN takes a certain level of vigor and willingness to learn and grow in order to be successful. Through this club I have learned to give speeches with clarity and value, to work in a united global effort to discuss and help conflicts, and to overcome challenges of perseverance and dedication. Every day I am thankful for the skills and strength I have acquired from Model UN and hope that it will help students for generations.

What are EC’s top strengths as a school?

EC’s top strengths are its academic rigor and positive community. By offering high level courses such as Seton Hall Dual Credit classes as well as AP classes, EC gives students a way for them to challenge themselves while also learning the ropes with a collegiate level of difficulty. Furthermore, EC’s strong community gives students an inviting classroom experience that encourages them to learn and grow.

How do you feel that EC prepared you for graduation, college/career and life?

Eastern Christian has given me the fundamental foundations for a faith based lifestyle. Through classes such as Apologetics, I am prepared to stand by my faith both in college and life. Furthermore, Eastern Christian has given me the perseverance to excel and the consideration to search for a meaningful christian community.

How did EC make you a better person? What legacy do you hope you left at EC?

EC helped me to grow as a person by providing a positive environment for growth. Backed by a strong community, I had an amazing environment for which to learn from my failures and to continue to take the next step, thereby growing as a person. I hope that my legacy is one of a person who helped his classmates grow to become better people themselves.

What would you say to a prospective student considering joining Eastern Christian School?

I would tell a prospective student considering joining Eastern Christian School to push past their fears and join something new. By staying in a bubble you will find it hard to grow and truly experience the variety EC offers. My best moments have come from me deciding to join a club or event, even if I was unsure.

I feel that the classes offered at EC set students up for higher education. Teachers at EC have a "what comes after" attitude rather than a "here's what we have to finish up now" which gives students a push a way that makes them eager to learn. Being able to earn college credits in certain classes have helped prepare me for the course load that college will have and guide me towards which classes truly matter to me.

How would you describe your overall experience at Eastern Christian?

I feel that the people at EC come together as an almost family. It seems that there is always someone willing to listen to me whether it’s a teacher or a student. I feel that the teachers at EC have been especially encouraging because they have never let me believe that I am not enough or that I cannot reach the goals I have in mind. The teachers, students, and coaches I have met here have helped me understand that I have the ability to reach wherever I have hopes to be, and I have a community that is always welcoming to myself and my family whenever I am here.

How did the EC community impact your life?

When I was in my junior year of high school, I was worried about my grades and if I was really where I was meant to be. A class that showed me my true place was in Psychology, where my teacher would ask us to journal based on a positive idea and explain how we had been impacted by it. I remember not being excited to do the class work then, but now that I am finished with the class I am grateful that I have a journal filled with my good memories that I can always come back to when I think of high school.

In what ways have you grown in your faith as a result of your experience at Eastern Christian School?

I feel that my faith has grown tremendously through the sports that I have been involved in at EC. I was never a star athlete, yet I always put in my best effort and came to as many practices and events as I could because I knew my mom was always the top in all her sports events. I knew that I had big shoes to fill, and softball was the place that I thought I could show my hard work off in. In years prior to high school, I had been a part of my town’s softball league so, naturally, I chose to join EC’s softball team. Here, I was able to find out what hard work meant, and we were pushed to work to our best ability. I later found that my passion lied in another sport, so my softball career came to a close. Although it seemed sad at the time, I found that this was simply growth. I no longer felt that I had a trophy or medal to chases after, and with the help of some great teammates and wonderful coaches, I was able to find my passion for track and field.

What’s an opportunity at EC that fueled a passion to learn and grow in?

In Earth Science Honors my freshman year, I was shown a unit on space and how our planet affects and is affected by the bodies in our solar system. For the first time, I felt an immediate pull towards this subject and I began researching it to find out what was so fascinating to me. Through this class that taught me about Earth, I was able to find my passion for what lies beyond and soon find my calling to research and astronomy.

What are EC’s top strengths as a school?

I feel that EC’s community is a very vibrant, welcoming place to be. Whether it’s against an opponent in a game or on the sidelines during a community night, you can always know that you have the support of others. EC sets students up for success and truly shows them what independence is through its many clubs and vast choice of classes.

How do you feel that EC prepared you for graduation, college/career and life? What legacy do you hope you left at EC?

I feel that the classes offered at EC set students up for higher education. Teachers at EC have a “what comes after” attitude rather than a “here’s what we have to finish up now” which gives students a push a way that makes them eager to learn.
