Homecoming 2018

Eastern Christian students, faculty, alumni and friends had another spectacular HomEComing weekend on October 19 and 20, 2018.

We began the weekend with a new event this year:  Alumni & Friends Golf at Wallkill Golf Club. A cold morning start would not discourage our 40 golfers.  The clear skies and bright sunshine made it a great day for a round with some special (read crazy) rules and a delicious BBQ lunch.

At 5:30 PM, 96 gathered for The Heritage Alumni Reunion Dinner, including two members of the class of ‘43, one of whom brought his Eastern Academy diploma along to assure his admittance.  And while the Heritage Alumni were dining at the high school, the Class of ‘68 gathered to celebrate their 50th reunion at Portobello Restaurant in Oakland. Meanwhile, current students and the community were celebrating victory over rival HCA in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Soccer games at Willow Field in North Haledon.  It was a great start to HomEComing weekend.

Saturday morning, with mild temperatures and some clouds in the sky we gathered early for the Betty Davis Memorial EC5K and The Isaac Hennessy Fun Run.  The 5K course record was shattered and the site of yellow shirts racing and bobbing in the fun run, along with Echo the Eagle mascot, brought lots of smiles.  Thanks to an army of volunteers, the races were a success. Next, it was off to the Middle School for the Family Fun Fair, including the apple pie and chili contests, and the alumni soccer game.  

We wrapped up HomEComing weekend with two new events:  The 3v3 Basketball Tournament was a big hit with an 8 team double elimination that included current students and alumni.  Once again we saw evidence that youth is not always the biggest advantage. During the tournament, there was a Ministry Fair featuring many local ministries and opportunities to participate in some hand-on activities,  The Ministry Fair was conceived and executed by an amazing group of High School students.

Finally, The HomEComing Dance (students only) at the High School.  What a great way to end the weekend.
