We are proud to announce that we have four state champions on our indoor track and field team! The indoor track and field team, coached Joel Apol, capped off an incredibly successful season with some impressive individual awards. Senior pole vaulters Grace Kellogg and David DeVries both won first place, sophomore sprinter Jaden Belen won the 55m and freshman Anneke Kuperus won in high jump! Grace and junior Matias Cortes also earned 1st team All County honors in pole vault with their performances at the county championships.

The track team at ECHS has a strong sense of camaraderie. David DeVries had this to say about the support from his teammates and coaches. “My teammates have always encouraged me in both good times and bad, helping me grow as an athlete. As for Mr. Apol, his workouts helped me greatly in the physical aspects as well as the technical aspects, helping me to get several personal bests this season.”

Grace Kellog came into the state championship looking to defend her outdoor and indoor titles from last year. In addition to defending her titles, Grace was able to continually clear higher marks, reaching new heights in her championship performances. Grace appreciates the culture of mentorship and support on the track team, saying, “EC Track has always been an amazing atmosphere to train and compete in, we truly love support and want the best for each other. Since my freshman year I have been led by older kids who I am still friends with today. I hope that as a senior that’s what the underclassmen think of me.”

Congratulations to our state champions and the entire track and field team!
