Geneva College is a leading Christian College in the United States. Their mission states that, “Geneva College is a Christ-centered academic community that provides a comprehensive education to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor.” Geneva is a U.S. News & World Report “Top 3 Best Value” out of all universities in the North Region. Founded in 1848, Geneva is also one of the oldest Christian Colleges in the United States. Geneva College is located in Beaver Falls, PA, just outside of Pittsburgh.
And now, Geneva is coming to New Jersey!
In a groundbreaking new partnership, Geneva College is teaming up with Eastern Christian School in their new “Eastern Campus.” The New Jersey Department of Education recently approved this innovative partnership, clearing the way for a fall/2020 launch.
“We are thrilled with our recent approval from the NJ Department of Education,” said Head of School Tom Dykhouse. “This partnership allows both historic Christian institutions of learning to further their shared missions of transforming the world in the service of the Kingdom.”
The brainchild of EC Publications Director Leah Genuario, this partnership is, as far as we know, the first of its kind anywhere in Christian Education. Intended for college-age students, the program will offer Christian higher education at costs that rival local community colleges. This will enable more students in New Jersey to access Christian education beyond their senior year of high school without incurring significant debt. The credits, if desired, could then be seamlessly applied to other four-year universities.
Genuario, a seventh year teacher at Eastern Christian High School, pitched the initial vision for this program as part of our “Shark Tank” exercise, “Eagles Perch.” Genuario won the competition in 2017 and has been working diligently with Extended Learning Director Suzanne Kraai and a joint team of professional colleagues from Geneva College and Eastern Christian School ever since.
A 1300+ page proposal was delivered to the New Jersey Department of Education in spring of 2019. The Department of Ed then conducted a site visit in August, 2019 where they met with the joint Geneva/EC team. A notice of the proposal was provided to every college in the state of New Jersey for comment. All comments received were complimentary and encouraging of the program. Final approval for the fall/2020 launch was received on December 19, 2019.
This marks the second time in as many years that Eastern Christian School has added an age group that had previously not been reached in the extensive history of the school. In fall/2019, we opened our preschool program to children ages 2.5 and above.
