What an awesome weekend of events on the streets, fields, and campuses of EC!

Friday night hosted the largest gathering of Heritage Alumni to date.  Alumni from the classes of ’44 through 67 renewed friendships and shared memories over a delicious meal.  Meanwhile the Boys Varsity Soccer team pulled off an exciting win under the lights 2-1 setting the pace as the Girl’s Varsity Soccer team also won Saturday 3-1!

Saturday, certainly was busy! The Isaac Hennessy/EC5K and Isaac’s Fun Run had record participation as hundreds from our community gathered to rally in spirit and stride around & behind Isaac and his family. With nearly 100 runners in Isaac’s Fun Run alone, which Jack Meserole (4th grade) soared through the 1/2 mile lap in an astounding 3 minutes, the activity at ECHS bustled from sun up until nearly 11am. Our very own, Coach Aaron Goldstein, won the 5K in a leg pumping sprint to the finish, but would surely agree Isaac was the overall winner of the day!

The Lord shined sun down on through the afternoon and the Family Fun Fair entertained children with activities and treats like Hero Blast Laser Tag, The Cake Walk, Caricatures, Strong Man Slam (hand made by Carnival Game creator Jim Stegink), Popcorn, Abma’s Apple Cider Donuts and much more. Meanwhile the Chili Cook-off & Apple Pie Contest was the draw for parents & Alumni Soccer spectators alike. Dan Lazor, with his Victorious Secret of beef, bacon and many more meats, Chili concoction won the contest with trophy and $100 Amazon GC, while Kris Vande Vrede, walked out with her first place trophy and $100 Amazon Card for the Alumni Apple Pie!  People’s choice awards go to Sharon Bale-Pena for her Chicken Chili and Jeremy Meserole for Nanna’s Apple Pie.

Records continued to shatter as the largest crowd to date took the field and cheered on Alumni Soccer Players at the game from 2:30-4:00 Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Ben Kuiken for organizing the men’s game and Kelsey Spoelstra for trying to garnish enough players for a women’s game. Hoping next year we can field both!

Wrapping up the weekend was the 12th Celebration Service featuring an Alumni Choir with over 40 singers joined by Honors Choir.  They took the stage, along with several special guests, for an inspiring performance and worship service Sunday evening. More details to come as we highlight that event in upcoming articles.

We hope you enjoyed the events surrounding this weekend and look forward to a great year ahead. Tremendous thanks to the  Facilities team for their amazing efforts and the legions of volunteers manning the courses, booths, stations, kitchens, fields, and stages throughout HomEComing 2017! Quite simply, we couldn’t have done it without you. Your unparalleled support of EC and the Hennessy family was radically appreciated and all to His glory. Amen!
