Girls Varsity Soccer 11/7/14

The girls final week of the season began with a comfortable win over Lacordaire in the opening round of the state tournament under the lights at Willow. Brenna Duffy, Carlin Sietsma and Christina Piluso each scored their first goal of the year while five different teammates were credited with assists. Sophomore Brooke Van Lenten recorded her 8th shutout of the season (with some help from Alexis Struck in goal for the second half!) Unfortunately, sophomore midfielder Brianna Altamura suffered a fractured radius early in the game and missed Friday’s game vs Morris Catholic.  A slow start on a cold, blustery day put the Eagles in a 3-0 first half hole vs the #2 seed in the tournament. Things got better in the final 40 minutes but alas, the season ended with a 4-0 loss to the defending sectional champions. The girls finished with a final record of 11-9-1 (not bad for the youngest lineup in program history!) Post season recognition: Senior captain Lyndsey Smith (1st team all league, 2nd team all county), sophomore forward Erin Vander Plaat (1st team all league, 1st team all county), Brianna Altamura (2nd team all league, Honorable Mention all county) and Brooke Van Lenten (Honorable Mention all league and all county.) Congratulations to the entire team for a fine season and exemplary sportsmanship!
