When can I return to school?

If your child is home because of the chart above, you have an option.

You can take your child to their primary physician or not.

Please read the following based on your decision.

If you go to the physician:

  • Your child can return to school, if they have a non-COVID diagnosis, have followed the physician recommendations AND they are symptom free for 24 hours without medication.
  • If your child is tested for COVID while at the appointment, the child must remain home until there is a negative result AND the child is symptom free for 24 hours.
  • A doctor’s note stating “Student is cleared to return to school” OR proof of a negative test result must be provided to the nurse upon return to school.

If you do not go to the physician:

  • The child needs to stay home for 10 days from onset of symptoms AND is symptom free for 24 hours without medication. Child must check in with the nurse upon return to school.
  • An exception to this would be a medical diagnosis on the child’s school health file that explains the symptoms (such as seasonal allergies)

If you receive a POSITIVE Covid-19 test result, you MUST inform the school nurse and provide a copy of the diagnosis paperwork.

  • Any siblings living in the household of a child testing positive for Covid-19 may not return for 14 days after the last day they were in contact with the ill child.
  • Regardless of testing negative or positive for Covid-19, you should try to isolate your sick child from healthy family members while at home.
  • Please keep in contact with your child’s school nurse as your child recovers.
