What do you love about Eastern Christian School?
I love the opportunities that Eastern Christian provides. One of my favorite classes at EC is Humanities, which is a combination of Literature and History. I love being able to experience the time period that we are studying about from both an English and Historical view. I think by learning that way, I am really experiencing everything the time period has to offer. It makes me think about what I’m learning from all perspectives rather than one. Eastern Christian offers many classes that challenges me as a student as well as activities and clubs that make me a well rounded person. Clubs like Senate and Class Council where I plan events and sports like soccer where I can bring my leadership onto the field. Additionally, I can show my faith through all of those activities, which is special too.
Describe one of your favorite teachers and tell why he/she is a favorite.
One of my favorite teachers is really passionate about their work, which makes every class interesting. He is always ready to teach his students about a subject that he obviously loves teaching. That makes me want to learn about that subject as well. Additionally, he is very caring and willing to help anyone. He will take his time with every student until they understand the subject matter. Although he is willing to help anyone, you have to go to him. He will not baby anyone, which is good and teaches us how to be responsible.
In what ways have you grown in your faith as a result of their experience at Eastern Christian School?
Throughout my sports career I have grown in my faith. Before every game the whole team prays before they go on the field. After the game is over we pray again with the other team if they would like to join. It is easy to get very nervous when going into a big game, but being able to pray and thank God for my health and ability to pray really calms my nerves. It helps that He is there with me on the field and whenever I am worried I know I can talk to him.
The Eastern Christian tagline is “Engaging. Nurturing. Transforming.” How do you experience an education that is engaging, nurturing and transforming at EC?
I experience an engaging education in my classes that interest me like Humanities. It is really interesting and a great learning experience. There is never a day when I don’t learn something new. I have a nurturing education with the teachers. They are always willing to help me in my high school experience. Their passion in the classroom also helps as well. If there is any troubles they’re very understanding and willing to help me do well. I have a transforming education on the soccer field. I have come closer to God in what I have seen Him do with me through my other teammates and how he can use me. I have some really inspiring teammates that I look up to and know I can count on whenever something worries me. Their faith is strong and I hope that I can do that for someone some day.
How do you feel that EC is preparing you for graduation, college and life? What are your plans after you graduate?
After I graduate EC I will be attending Penn State. I know that I will be well prepared for what is to come. EC provides many challenging classes that I was able to take to help me grow in knowledge and life skills. I have learned how to manage my time a lot throughout my high school career, which will definitely help me next year. Furthermore, these classes taught me a lot and not all of the classes are generic classes. EC provides Advanced Biology, Psychology, Honors Choir which teaches music theory, and so much more. A student at EC will get a very diverse education which is awesome.
