What do you teach at Eastern Christian School?
“I teach grades 7 and 8 Writing Workshop.”
What do you love about Eastern Christian School?
“I love the sense of community and shared purpose with the faculty.”
Why do you like teaching at Eastern Christian? What motivated you to become a teacher at Eastern Christian?
“I have always taught in a Christian school environment and like having the ability to instruct students from a faith-based perspective.”
How do you teach a Christian Worldview in your classes at EC?
“Writing assignments, whether fiction or non-fiction, are centered around our Core Values. Additionally, Scripture is included in assignments for response and reflection. For example, the 8th grade recently wrote a reflective response to answer the question, “What is Beauty?” Part of the assignment was to compare society’s view, their personal view, and God’s view toward beauty to see if the three were in line with one another or not. Additionally, the 7th graders responded to a quote by Gandhi and verses spoken by Jesus to respond to “An Eye for An Eye” and how to handle conflict.”
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
“As a published author, I bring my experience with and knowledge of the publishing industry, in addition to the craft of writing, to my classes by having students write for contests and publication in literary journals.”
What sets EC students apart from students in other schools?
“Again I reference community and a genuine attitude of caring – for their peers and their teachers.”
What do you want your students to gain from having known you?
“I want my students to gain a love of writing and confidence in their ability to communicate through the written word.”
