Jaclyn Turner, Art Teacher
Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Hawthorne and went to EC from Kindergarten through 12th grade! I currently reside in Westwood with my husband, Brian. When I am not teaching, I am working on my own oil paintings. I have shown my work in a few galleries and hope to continue showing and selling my paintings. Some of my other interests include hiking, biking, and cooking. I love being outside and LOVE animals.
How did God bring you to work at EC?
I graduated from Messiah College in 2013 with a BA in Studio Art and a minor in Art History. During college I gained experience interning at Montclair Art Museum and assistant teaching at Drawing Room Fine Art and Sculpture Studio. The summer after graduation I worked as a teacher and gallery assistant at One River School and Gallery in Englewood until settling into a teacher and studio manager position at Abrakadoodle Art Studio in Hillsdale. I am very excited about how God has now brought me back to EC as a teacher instead of a student!
What sets EC apart?
As a teacher at Eastern Christian, I know that my job does not end with sharing knowledge or preparing students for worldly success. My job is to help students see that our primary vocation as Christians is to live the Christian life according to His will and be agents for change and reconciliation of all things. As an art teacher, I have the opportunity to tell my students that they are ALL capable of being creative because we were ALL made in the image of the most amazing Artist – our Creator!
