I transferred into Eastern Christian as a sophomore because I was looking for a school that was more conducive to learning. I have found the teachers and curriculum here very stimulating.
At my previous school, memorization and rote learning were considered important parts of a rigorous education. But EC has shown me that interpretive thinking and wrestling with big ideas are actually much more important. I particularly enjoy my humanities classes. In these classes, instead of just receiving raw data from teachers, I’m presented with an event or a concept and then given a chance to interpret it and incorporate my own opinions. EC’s teaching style has allowed me to form a unique way of thinking and to develop a Christian worldview. EC has also shown me the intellectual side of Christianity. The teachers at EC are thoughtful; they never view things in black and white and are willing to look at both sides of a coin. In particular, I’ve been influenced by Mr. Verrengia and his ability to seamlessly incorporate science and Christianity. Ms. Bucci is a great mixture of morals and fun.
The absence of a school-wide coming together by students is something I took for granted at my old school. At EC, Chapel helps make EC a more tightly knit community. I especially like that students are so involved. We often plan and participate in Chapel.
EC is the ideal school for me. Ever since I started attending EC, I’ve felt like I have more drive in my life. It has helped me to feel like I have a purpose or mission in life and that I want to make a difference in the world.
