A Message from Mrs. Sandra Bottge, Principal:

Exciting changes are taking place in Eastern Christian Preschool next year. Our preschool classes are moving into three classrooms in a dedicated Primary Program wing at the elementary school. This move allows more flexibility in scheduling our Three-Year-Old, Four-Year-Old and Junior Kindergarten classes to meet parent needs. Our full day kindergarten classroom will also be relocated to our newly renovated Primary Program wing. Classrooms will be refurnished and decorated for September.

An Early Childhood Team of teachers, parents and administrators recently completed a comprehensive review of our early childhood program and made recommendations to expand and restructure our program. This recommendation was approved by the ECSA Board of Directors and will be completed in several phases over the next few years.

Eastern Christian's Primary Program mission is "to provide a quality Christian learning community which nurtures each student's God given curiosity into a love of learning. We will provide a safe and secure environment for transformational academic, social, emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual growth. The program will strive to develop partnership with parents and families resulting in each child's growth and development."

Phase two of our expansion, scheduled for the summer of 2013, will include additional curriculum and physical changes. We will keep you informed of these exciting changes at they take place.

A Message from Ms. Maddie Rupp, Principal for a Day:

In Haiti, there are some places where a lot of babies are dying because the formula is running out to feed them.

But, you can help!

In your child's Friday Folder, there is a note about how you can help.

My dad, Mike Rupp has been to Haiti and has had a great experience.

He loved the children and he gave them shoes, and it was just wonderful.

I hope someday maybe you can go. I might go there this summer. Have a good weekend!

A Message from Mrs. Sandra Bottge, Principal:

Students in Preschool through grade 12 have the day off from school tomorrow for a teacher Inservice day. Inservice days are an integral part of the quality educational program we offer at EC because they allow us focus our attention on student learning. Tomorrow we will spend time planning for differentiated instruction and continuing our work on our Educational Blueprint plans.

Differentiated instruction is a way of tailoring instruction to meet individual needs. We know that students have different strengths, weaknesses, learning styles and interests that affect the way they learn. We strive to meet the needs of all students by adjusting or differentiating our curriculum and lessons. During our Inservice meeting teachers will set new goals in differentiating their instruction for the remainder of the year.

The Eastern Christian Educational Blueprint is a seven-year plan that teachers created two years ago as part of the accreditation process with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Teams of teachers set goals for student learning in the areas of literacy, numeracy and leadership. These teacher teams will collaborate tomorrow on topics including a summer reading program, assessing students' numeracy skills and developmentally appropriate opportunities for leadership.

We are excited to focus our time tomorrow on planning how to best meet the needs of all our students and we look forward to observing the positive impact it will have on learning.

A Message from Mrs. Sandra Bottge, Principal:

EC students in grades 2-10 will be taking Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests beginning May 2. In the spring we take a science MAP test in addition to reading, language and math. Taking MAP tests twice a year allows us to see how students have grown academically during the school year. Parent reports will be sent home after the test window closes near the end of May. You can help your children prepare for the test by ensuring that they get an adequate night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time. We don't want students to feel stressed about taking MAP tests; however, we do want to provide an environment that is conducive to test taking. Below is the spring testing schedule:

May 2:

Grade 2 Language

            May 8:  Grade 2 Math
Grade 3 Language May 10:  Grade 3 Math
May 3: Grade 4 Language  Grade 4 Math
Grade 3 Reading May 11:  Grade 2 Science
May 4: Grade 2 Reading  Grade 3 Science
Grade 4 Reading  May 15:  Grade 4 Science
