The American Experience

Located just 30 minutes from New York City

Eastern Christianʼs American Experience Program is an intensive English program that will provide international students with many opportunities to improve their wintereslnewjersey statue libertyEnglish skills while experiencing American culture. Participants will build confidence, make new friends and live the daily life of an American student. The program will operate from July 22 - August 13 at the Eastern Christian Middle School campus in Wyckoff, New Jersey, located 25 miles from New York City.

International students will be taught by experienced Eastern Christian School teachers and will interact with American students daily. Students will participate in English Encounters which is an intensive English as a Second Language class that will concentrate on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing and conversational skills. American ambassador students will also attend camp each day and will be paired with international students, maximizing opportunities for interaction between students.

  • 5th to 12th Grade

A Typical Day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)

Morning

International students will interact with American students through a wide variety of educational and sporting activities.

Lunchtime

American Experience students and students from America will eat lunch together. Even when not in the classroom, international students will be working to improve their English skills.

Afternoon

In the afternoons, international students will work in the classroom with American teachers to improve their English vocabulary, as well as written and spoken English skills. During this time, students will have the opportunity to interact with American students through highly interactive group activities and games.

The Home Stay Program

Staying with an American family is an enriching cultural experience and is an important component of our program. American families will share their homes with students, and students will participate in the everyday activities of their host families. This is an excellent opportunity for students to improve their English skills and to establish many close friendships. Eastern Christian School has many fine homes and families interested in hosting our international students.
