At Eastern Christian, we value the abilities and contributions of young children. Our program is designed to help children develop spiritually, educationally, socially and emotionally. Children’s learning is enhanced through discovery and hand-on learning in a safe, loving and nurturing environment.
Hours: Thursdays, 9:00 – 11:00 AM
Fall Session: October 6 – December 15, 2011
Spring Session: February 2 – May 17, 2012
BIBLE
While learning Bible stories, children will learn about God and his love for them. They will learn that they are special to God. Students learn about Old Testament heroes and about Jesus' life in the New Testament.
Social Development
A variety of activities in the Time for Twos class stimulate children's speech and language skills. Children are taught to share and to interact and play with each other.
Language Development
Through listening activities, children's language development is increased. Their ability to communicate orally is stimulated and their vocabulary increases. They begin to have an interest in books and the spoken word.
Auditory Development
A variety of activities will enhance children's listening skills, both individually and in group situations. They begin to sit quietly for a short story.
Pre-Number Activities
Early number activities will introduce children to number awareness. Children will begin early counting and be introduced to basic shapes.
Science/Social Studies
Children develop an awareness of God's world through different activities. The following are introduced: basic parts of the body, the naming of familiar objects and animal recognition.
Music
Children learn to sing praises to God and to use music as part of their learning experience.
Art
Children express themselves artistically and creatively. They have an interest in making crafts.
Large Motor Development
Large motor activities help children develop body awareness and balance.
Fine Motor Development
Fine motor activities help children develop eye-hand coordination and introduce early drawing to young children.

Bible
Children in the three year old class learn that they are children of God and that they are special to Him and to others. They realize that the world around them is created by God. They gain knowledge of Bible stories. Children experience and participate in prayer. Bible lessons include Old Testament stories (Creation and Bible heroes) and the life of Jesus (including miracles and parables) in the New Testament.
Social Interaction
Three year olds learn to cooperate with others in a classroom setting. They interact in small groups as well as the class as a whole. They begin to assume responsibilities and share materials within the classroom. The students are introduced to classroom routines and rules and begin to learn and follow them.
Language Development
Three year old Preschool students are exposed to a variety of activities to help develop their ability to communicate verbally with others. Vocabulary continues to develop and understanding is increased. Children understand the importance of books and speech.
Pre-Reading Readiness
Activities are designed to help children develop auditory and visual discrimination and the ability to follow directions and solve problems is developed. Children learn their colors. The alphabet is introduced and children begin to recognize letter names. Children can recognize their first names in print and begin to write them.
Pre-Number Activities
Children in the three year old class develop an awareness of numbers. They begin to recognize numbers and rote count. They can recognize basic shapes.
Science
The children develop an awareness of the wonders of the world God created. They learn about seeds, the life cycle of the butterfly, weather and good health habits.
Social Studies
Students learn about themselves in relation to others. This includes their relationships within their families, friends and community.
Music
Children learn to appreciate music as a creative tool. They use music to sing praise to God and worship Him.
Art
Children express themselves artistically and creatively. The making of crafts reinforces learning. Children use a variety of media.
Large Motor Development
Three year olds engage in various large motor activities to help develop balance, control, rhythm and agility.
Fine Motor Development
Three year olds develop the muscles they will later use for writing. Activities help develop eye-hand coordination and gain control in small motor skills.

Bible
Children in the Jr. Kindergarten class learn that they are children of God and that they are special to Him and to others. They know that Jesus is their friend. They realize that the world around them is created by God. They gain knowledge and understanding of Bible stories. Children experience prayer in the classroom and are encouraged to lead in prayer. Bible lessons include Old Testament stories (Creation and Bible heroes) and the life of Jesus (including miracles and parables) in the New Testament and devotions. Children are taught to exhibit characteristics of Christian living.
Social Interaction
Jr. Kindergarten children learn to cooperate with others in a classroom setting. They interact in small groups as well as the class as a whole. They learn to work independently and to assume responsibilities. The students know and follow classroom routines and rules.
Language Development
Jr. Kindergarten students are exposed to a variety of activities to help develop their ability to communicate orally and to comprehend the spoken word Children understand the importance of books and speech. Vocabulary is expanded and attention span is further developed. Children learn to follow directions.
Reading Readiness
Jr. Kindergarten children are immersed in alphabet activities to further letter recognition. They are given activities to help further develop auditory and visual discrimination and an understanding between the written and spoken word. Students understand that words represent thoughts and ideas. Students learn that letters added together form words. Listening skills are further developed and emphasis is given to comprehension and phonemic awareness. Beginning, middle and ending sounds are presented.
Writing
Students continue to learn the transfer of learned symbols into writing. The use of journals helps in their writing development in both expression and fine motor development. Attention is given to correct pencil grasp. Children are encouraged to write the letters of the alphabet, both capital and lower case. Students are introduced to familiar words to enhance love of reading and writing.
Math Readiness
Children in Jr. Kindergarten develop an awareness of numbers and math concepts. They recognize numbers, rote count and can correctly count objects. Number writing and early addition and subtraction activities are introduced.
Science
Jr. Kindergarten students continue to develop an awareness of the wonders of the world God created. The use of science in the Jr. Kindergarten classroom fosters a desire for increased learning of scientific principles within the Christian worldview.
Social Studies
Students are developing a positive self-concept in an atmosphere in which they experience success. They continue to learn about themselves in relation to others, both near and far. This includes their relationships within their families, friends and community. They learn their phone numbers and addresses. They learn the days of the week, names of the months and the names and importance of holidays. As part of social studies, the children are introduced to various Christmas customs around the world.
Music
Students in Jr. Kindergarten have learned to appreciate music as a creative tool. They use music to sing praise to God and worship Him. Music class enhances learning throughout the curriculum.

Children express themselves artistically and creatively. The making of crafts reinforces learning. Children use a variety of media.
Large Motor Development
