Eastern Christian High School’s “Micah Challenge” is a student group that strives to present opportunities for  students to live out the challenge of Micah 6:8– “To act justly and seek mercy.”  The group sponsors, among other things, such activities as sending Christmas cards to Christian prison inmates, sponsoring food drives, and helping to fund the Baby Bank.

The Baby Bank is a ministry of the Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, helping mothers who go to pre natal classes at St. Joe’s Hospital in Paterson, by giving them packages containing helpful supplies like diapers, blankets, and wipes.

The Micah Challenge group along with EC’s own “Baby Bank Singers” (an ECHS student fund-raiser that allows students to purchase a live performance of a song for a friend- all proceeds are given to the Baby Bank) paid a special visit to the founder of the Baby Bank ministry, Jeanne VanderPoel. Mrs. VanderPoel recently lost a loved one, and was in need of some sunshine. After presenting a gift from the faculty for the ministry, Micah Challenge members gave Jeanne a big card, and the baby Bank Singers favored her with a rousing chorus of “You Are My Sunshine.”
