High School Art Teacher

Eastern Christian School is seeking a part-time High School Art Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Teacher is responsible for working with their principal, support staff and teacher colleagues to assist in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school.

Instructional planning:

  • Follow the school’s written curriculum.
  • Translate course goals into student friendly objectives for lessons suitable to the age level and developmental needs of students.
  • Plan learning experiences which encourage the natural curiosity of students and are relevant to their lives and experiences.
  • Plan lessons that connect Biblical principles to concepts about God’s world.
  • Design and use differentiated instruction which appeals to multiple learning styles.
  • Select means of assessment that effectively measures students’ learning.
    Maintain a wholesome spiritual and emotional atmosphere conducive to the spiritual nurture and development of the students.

Teaching a class:

  • Assume the role of a teacher, coach, or guide facilitating learning rather than being the source of all information.
  • Emphasize the development of critical thinking where meaning and understanding of concepts have priority over factual knowledge.
  • Create a safe, caring classroom environment of acceptance and respect which encourages growth and nurtures spirituality.

Relating with students:

  • Establish a climate of love and care.
  • Define responsible Christian behavior, including guidelines and consequences.

In relating to parents:

  • Communicate regularly about their child’s progress and needs.
  • Respond to parental requests for information in a timely manner.

Professional growth:

  • Annually meet with the Principal or Supervisor to create goals for a Professional Development Plan.
  • Be committed to keep current with new research in learning and best practices.
  • Attend faculty meetings, inservice meetings and other assigned committee meetings.

Qualifications Include:

Professionally:

  • Ability to obtain State Certification or ECSA Board Endorsement.
  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Art.

Spiritually:

  • Acceptance of ECSA’s Statement of Faith
  • A strong, clear, Christian testimony
  • A mature, godly spirit

Personally:

  • A lifestyle of Biblical integrity.
  • A spirit of dedication, commitment, flexibility, and responsiveness to the needs of others.
  • The ability to listen and respond to counsel
  • A strong philosophical commitment to Christian education and the mission of Eastern Christian School.
  • Subscription to the Reformed doctrines as outlined and professed in the Heidelberg Catechism, Canons of Dordt and the Belgic Confession.

Non-Instructional Positions

Paraprofessional & After School Director

Eastern Christian Elementary School is seeking a Paraprofessional and After School Director. 

This is a combined position. The schedule is as follows:

Monday through Friday for the duration of the school year. 

Paraprofessional: 11:30am – 3:00pm.

After School Director: 3:00pm – 6:00pm.

Paraprofessional Responsibilities Include:

Assist teacher(s) with instruction in the classroom (i.e. work with small groups or individuals while teacher instructs and manages the class)

Instruct students outside of the classroom (i.e. hallway, conference room) as directed by the teacher(s). Instruction may include but is not limited to reteaching a concept, providing enrichment for advanced students, assessing students.

Assist teachers with safety precautions including fire drills, evacuation drills and lockdown drills.

Supervise students on the playground during recess: Circulate around assigned playground area to observe all students and ensure that students are safe and following playground rules. Allow for students to resolve conflicts. Step in as needed when conflicts escalate.Determine the need for students to visit the nurse during recess.

Create a safe, caring environment of acceptance and respect.

The After School Director Responsibilities Include: 

Provide direct supervision of students and after school staff.

Ensure safety, security and care of children.

Maintains accurate documentation of attendance, absences and emergency information on each child.

Assists in keeping program areas neat, clean and organized.

Qualifications:

Experience working with children is preferred.

Good communication skills with people from many different backgrounds.

Acceptance of ECSA’s Statement of Faith.

A strong, clear, Christian testimony.

It is anticipated that the person in this position will have regular, predictable on-site attendance.

The person in this position regularly communicates with teachers and students regarding their class work and day-to-day activities. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

The person in this position is required to move about the campus as required including work in outdoor weather conditions. The person in this position is subject to regular levels of student playground and classroom noise.

Kitchen Substitutes - Eagles Cafe

The Eagle’s Cafe (cafeteria), located at the High School campus in North Haledon, occasionally needs substitutes to help in the kitchen.

This is a five (5) hour shift. 8:00 AM-1:00 PM unless otherwise specified.

Requirements include personal mode of transportation for inter-campus lunch delivery.  Tasks include general kitchen prep and clean up at the direction of the supervisor on staff.

Homestay Family - 2024-2025 School Year

Eastern Christian is seeking Homestay Families for the 2024-2025 school year. The homestay family is responsible for cultivating a safe, nurturing, structured and comfortable home environment for Eastern Christian School’s international student(s). The Homestay Family should be able to develop a relationship with the student in the home; grounded in compassion, mutual respect, and consistency. Hosting an international student is truly a ministry, an opportunity to share Christ’s love in your home. When an international family decides to send their child to America, a large measure of trust is being given to Eastern Christian School and to the Homestay Family. The Homestay Family will ensure that each child will be safe and loved. Eastern Christian expects the Homestay Family to take a proactive and hands-on approach and are responsible for a multitude of tasks related to the students’ experience at their home and at Eastern Christian School.

An annual stipend is paid to the Homestay Family.
